When you have psoriasis, you need to be incredibly careful about the products and ingredients you use on your skin. I tend to stick to products I know well, have used and love because that way I know that I will not cause damage or irritation to my psoriasis.
Over the years, I have tried many products on my skin, especially my face due to my psoriasis being predominately on my face. Below, I have listed some of my favourite skincare products which I used religiously when my facial psoriasis was at its worst and that I still use today. I love these products as they do not cause irritation to my psoriasis nor do they cause flares, this has allowed me to develop a facial skincare routine that suits my psoriasis. Hopefully, after reading this post, you will be able to develop your own facial skincare routine that suits your psoriasis.
Exfoliating sensitive skin
Beauty Kitchen products are 100% natural and have the added bonus of being really affordable products. Their recipes only contain pure essential oils plus naturally derived ingredients that don’t cost the earth.
The Miracle Mother Nature Facial Konjac Sponge is a fantastic must have skincare product for anyone with facial psoriasis (or acne, eczema or any other facial skin condition) as it a super gentle exfoliating cleansing sponge that can be used on even the most sensitive skin. When I first used this product I was a wee bit scared that the sponge would be harsh and irritate my psoriasis – but in reality it was the complete opposite. Gently sweeping the sponge across my facial psoriasis allowing me to cleanse the skin around my psoriasis with ease as well as cleansing the skin covered by psoriasis without causing a flare. No other product has made my face feel so clean, glowing and smooth!
Another must use Beauty Kitchen facial product that I can’t live without is their Spoil Me Special Wonder Balm. This little balm (described as being for your lips and dry bits) is a small but incredibly mighty product – trust me, a little goes a very long way. Not only does the product smell amazing, it is super soft on your skin. Plus, it’s all natural so won’t dry out your skin or psoriasis no matter how often you apply! It also comes in a super cute little tub so you won’t mind pulling it out in public to apply to all those pesky dry bits of skin!
The Beauty Kitchen brand was made and they opened their first store in my wonderful home city of Glasgow making them a great local company – for me, there’s nothing not to love about them!
Cleansing and toning without irritating your skin
Liz Earle products are higher-end products that cost a little bit more money than Beauty Kitchen. They are, however, also great for your skin and great skincare investment products.
To cleanse my skin, I use the well-known (and well-loved) Cleanse & Polish Cleanser. The product is simple and easy to use plus it is gentle enough to be used both morning and night.
To use, simply massage the cleansers onto your skin over your face and neck. The product doesn’t irritate or cause redness to my psoriasis which is great. You then rinse the pure cotton cloth (which comes with the cleanser) in hand-hot water and wring out before gently wiping the cleanser off your face. The cleanser is great for removing those tough make-up products (including waterproof mascara). This product is gentle on my psoriasis and leaves my skin feeling clean and smooth.
I also use the Liz Earle Tone with Instant Boost. This product is alcohol-free and provides an instant boost of hydration to your skin leaving it looking radiantly healthy. I would caution using too much of this product on especially bad areas of psoriasis or broken areas of skin, as it could cause irritation and sting your skin a little.
Moisturising and re-hydrating your dry skin
In terms of a moisturiser, I swear by Cetraben. Cetraben can be bought over the counter in some of the larger high street pharmacies such as Boots, Superdrug and Lloyds to name just a few and is made is to treat dry skin and eczema or psoriasis prone skin by re-hydrating and protecting the skin from irritants. Cetraben only contains three ingredients that work together to keep your skin hydrated through all layers and does not irritate the skin.
I hope my recommendations that work for me can help you too to try and find some products that suit you and your psoriasis. Treating yourself will help you to stick to a skincare routine which you (and your skin) will love!
