Having psoriasis on your body can be difficult to conceal at the best of times. However, having psoriasis on your face or neck can be even harder to conceal or cover up. Facial psoriasis can’t be covered or concealed with clothing and can be more obvious to people who are not aware of what the condition is. This can make people feel insecure or anxious about their facial psoriasis.
Having had facial psoriasis for three years, I have found ways to manage and conceal my psoriasis using make up, meaning it is less noticeable. I have tried and tested many methods over the years to try and conceal the redness and cover up my psoriasis. Below are my best and top tips for helping you cover your facial psoriasis, so you can appear to have flawless clear skin.
Green Concealer is your new best friend!
Okay, so I know what you are probably thinking. Why on earth would I want to or need to put green concealer on my face or my psoriasis? Whilst green concealer can look intimidating, it's pretty easy to use when you know how! It may look unconventional but green concealer is a highly effective way to counteract stubborn redness that cannot be covered by normal concealer or foundation alone.
By blending the green concealer into your skin and dabbing it onto your psoriasis – I do this using a beauty blender – it can tone down how red your facial psoriasis looks. This means when it comes to applying your normal foundation, the psoriasis is easier to cover than it would be without it. The green concealer helps to camouflage the psoriasis and make your skin look clearer when you have finished applying your makeup.
Get some Dermocolour make up
Kryolan is a great brand for covering up psoriasis and any other blemishes that you may have on your face. Kryolan work with leading dermatologists and accomplish ongoing clinical tests to ensure excellent skin compatibility. This means that your skin is going to get great coverage from using their products.
I started using the Dermacolor Camouflage Creme Quintet almost two years ago and I haven’t used another concealer since. The Dermacolor Concealer is designed to correct and cover skin disfigurements and discolorations. The concealer is especially designed to cover psoriasis, acne and rosacea on the face and neck.
I use Kryolan Dermacolor Concealer over the green concealer I apply to my psoriasis to help get rid of redness and to ensure I do not have a green glow coming from underneath my foundation. The Dermacolor Concealer keeps the psoriasis covered even in immense heat or during exercise, meaning you don’t ever have to ever worry about your psoriasis being on show.
Invest in your foundation
Investing in a good, high-end foundation that gives good coverage is a great and easy way to help cover your facial psoriasis.
Getting a foundation that offers good coverage means you can apply one layer of the foundation to cover your psoriasis. If your foundation does not offer good coverage, then you can end up applying multiple layers of foundation to try and cover your psoriasis which would leave your foundation looking cakey and attracting more attention to the skin you are trying to cover.
There are also foundations designed specifically to cover psoriasis, acne and rosacea on the face and neck. Brands such as Vichy offer Dermablend ranges which is camouflage make up with added SPF that expertly covers all complexion flaws, from mild to severe imperfections. The Vichy Dermablend is available in a camouflage foundation fluid, cream-stick, compact and mineral setting powder meaning that you can get the foundation type you like without compromising on coverage. Vichy Dermablend leaves the skin looking even and luminous, with a comfortable, natural looking result.
