Getting support from your partnerGetting support from your partner is not only important to help maintain your quality of life, but could also affect the course of your psoriasis. Stress can trigger a flare-up or prevent psoriasis from clearing up. It's important to keep the channels of communication open with your partner so they can fully understand your needs and prevent you from feeling anxious about any misunderstandings. Communicating effectively will increase the likelihood of your psoriasis improving.
Whatever your concerns, it's important to remember that your partner won't know how to help unless you tell them.
Try to explain how you are feelingNo matter how close you are to somebody, it can still be hard for your partner to know exactly what you're going through. It's also worth remembering that they are also likely to feel distressed if you are suffering, even though they may not always know how to show it or how best to support you.
Help them to help you by always being as honest as possible about how you feel and what exactly you need them to do to help you feel better and more in control of your condition. Listen to their concerns too, to make sure misunderstandings do not escalate.
Everybody is different, so there are many different concerns that you might wish to share. Perhaps you feel embarrassed about exposing your skin. Maybe you'd like your partner to remind you to use your treatment, to point out an area that's looking red that you haven't noticed, or to help you apply your moisturiser and treatment in hard-to-reach areas.
